Yamaha Dx11 For Sale Full FM MachinesTheres the SY77 and SY99 which sound awesome and are full FM machines, but theyre harder to program despite the large screen and the ROM samples havent aged well. The interesting 4 operator models are the DX100 because of its portability and the TX81z which can be found relatively easily, but is harder to program due to its 1U form factor. Or a DX100, which are often underpriced (around 100) because people selling them dont know what they have. Good luck. Stay away from the other DX synths unless you can get them for real cheap like under 100. ![]() Yamaha Dx11 For Sale Software FM SynthesizersThere are several software FM synthesizers that sound as good or better than the vintage hardware, and almost universally with more features and a better interface. I cant see why anyone would want a DX synth except for vintage cachet or a peculiar feature (which the DX11 doesnt have), and the DX11 in particular isnt a very exciting model. Then agin, Im sure everyone was saying the same thing about analog classics back in the early 90s when they were going for a fraction of the price they do now. Continue this thread level 1 3 points 7 years ago edited 7 years ago If youre looking at one, it shouldnt cost more than 150, and thats if its in great condition. The rack version is the TX 81Z which you can find on Craigslist for about 100. Its just nothing special unless youre way into that sort of thing. The main interesting feature is selectable waveforms, rather than having every operator be a sinewave. I think this is really fun, but Ive never really made a sound that struck me as something I couldnt do on any other properly-programmed FM synth. For serious sound design I stick with softsynths for FM, but having the DX11 on the side to play with and noodle on has been nice. It makes a bunch of half decent organ noises if you have a rotary-speaker emulator. If you already have some other synths its probably not worth the space and effort, but if youre looking for something cheap to play with, I think its great. EDIT: heads up, these are old enough that the internal batteries are dying, and taking the patch memory with them. I had to replace mine, which was non-trivial, as it is soldered to the board. ![]() ![]() All rights reserved Back to top.
